The visual effects in 3D movies have gotten really awesome these days. It's not like the old days when you had one blue eye and one red eye on your glasses. They gave me a such a headache. Now, they are nice hard plastic glasses. They are much fancier than the crappy cardboard glasses that you used to get. I get excited about every 3D movie that's coming out, since i saw Beowulf......and then i went to see this movie. I get into the theater, and then it hits me. I look at the trailers of the the next two 3D movies that are coming out. The first on is 'Bolt', which actually looks ok, but the second one is 'Fly Me to the Moon' which looks absolutely horrible. It's about travelling spaces flies in little space suits. Who the hell wants to see that!!!? This proves my theory that people are smart and groups are stupid. This one was definitely a group written story. Journey to the center of th earth wasn't very good. It wasn't horrible, but the story was weak. This one was another group effort. If it wasn't for the 3D effects, which compared to Beowulf weren't all that spectacular, i probably wouldn't have paid to see this. Here's two parts of the movie that are absolutely absurd. In the middle of the movie they find out that they need to go to iceland to find an institute for some vulcanologist. They go there, of course. After driving all day and night on one tank of gas, they get lost in a remote area in iceland. They get out of the car, and what do you know, it's right there. The second bad idea was when Alex, played by Josh Hutcherson gets lost. and separated from the group. A little blue glowing bird leads him out and seems to understand what Alex is saying. So these little birds that have been trapped under the earth for millions of years understand english. Are you kidding me??? So great 3D effects, not so great story. There were a few good scary moments where i jumped out of my seat due to 3D monsters popping out of the screen. If you like 3D, i'd say go see it anyway. It's still good enough for a kids movie too. This site has a list of upcoming 3D movies. Check it out. http://www.firstshowing.net/2007/11/23/the-big-guide-to-all-upcoming-3d-movies/
