Katie and Peter - The UK’s Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson?

Are Peter and Katie The new Nick and Jessica? I'm going to brace myself for the criticism I may receive for this little confession, but I need to get something off my chest, I've been thinking about it for a while and I just wanted to say... I actually really like Katie Price & Peter Andre.  Please don't hate me! I realise there's a lot of people out there who would disagree with me on this, but after following several news stories and TV shows about the couple I can't help but find them strangely appealing. The media have recently dubbed Peter Andre and Katie Price "Dosh & Pecks" and are hailing them as the new ‘Posh & Becks' (David & Victoria Beckham) now, I don't think I'd go quite that far but with the birth of their baby daughter recently the couple are definitely all over the news here in the UK and you just can't get away from them.

You are probably wondering why I would admit to liking this couple, as the general consensus seems to be that we should all slag them off repeatedly, and hope that they go away but I think that secretly loads of people watch the show and probably actually quite enjoy it. The main reason for me liking Katie & Peter so much is down to their honesty and normality. Katie has toned down her glamour girl alter ego ‘Jordan' since she met singer Peter Andre on the reality show ‘I'm a celebrity, get me outta here!' and the couple have started their own fly on the wall documentary which lets the public follow them around 24/7 showing their personal life and media life in great detail much like the popular MTV ‘Newlyweds' show which starred Nick Lachey & Jessica Simpson. Something I have noticed whilst watching the show is that the couple are genuinely head over heels in love, I must admit, along with half the British population at the time, I did doubt their relationship at first and labelled it as yet another reality show publicity stunt, but after watching it I love the fact that they are actually pretty normal considering their fame and wealth. They fight like cat and dog most of the time, but they also spend a lot of time making eachother happy and caring for their children. I have a lot of respect for Katie Price, she has managed to turn herself from a successful glamour model into a hugely successful business woman, TV star and author. She has a no nonsense attitude and has faced some tough criticism recently for showing a scene from their reality series in which she and peter were told they had suffered a miscarriage.

I totally commend them for their decision to show that footage, and I feel that the way they dealt with such a heartbreaking issue was both responsible and mature. Having been through that moment myself I know how much of a shock it can be, and understand their reasons behind showing the whole appointment on tape, its what they are about and its what their show is about, they don't shy away from the camera and they don't hide what's going on, its raw and honest and makes for very compulsive viewing.... Of course, having said that Peter Andre still has moments where I just want to grab hold of him by his floppy boy band style hairdo, shake him repeatedly and tell him to stop being so cheesy but that's part of what makes the show so amusing and cringeworthingly entertaining to watch I guess!
